When I took my Clifton Strengths test, I found Discipline and Consistency near the bottom of the listing. Which didn’t come as a surprise to me, nor to anyone who knows me.
I’m the kind of person who finds routine boring. Who can’t write a book once she’s planned it meticulously, because all the interesting work has already been done. And who can’t image eating the same lunch two days running, let alone every week for months.
I thrive on variety, on problems, on making order from chaos. Doing the same thing day in, day out isn’t my idea of a good time. Which is one reason dieting with its many restrictions and constant check-ins has never worked for me.
It was also why I initially eyed the Slimpod program a little sideways.
There’s no weighing, no monitoring, no counting calories, and absolutely all foods are permitted. But there are two components that require consistency: listening to the Slimpod and writing daily wins.
Could I do that?
I thought so, especially if I enlisted my husband’s help. He’s a former athlete / scientist / engineer and the most meticulous person I know. He also has no problems lunching on cheese sandwiches and crisps day in, day out.
Prompting me to listen to a 10-minute pod every evening and reminding me to write my wins will be a piece of cake for him and thereby, hopefully, for me.
